Born in Australia and a true globe trotter, Grant speaks English, French, German and Polish and feels at home in any place in the world. Being documentary filmmaker means working under constant pressure – recording now, or never. Grant is a virtuoso cinematographer whose images not only depict but also empathise.
It is not acceptable that any people are discriminated against and for the most part the LGBTIQ communities still do not have the same rights. This discrimination will only change when people from inside and outside the community develop an empathic understanding for each other. REAL GIRLS should contribute to this change.
From Germany, Hille started her movie career in fiction film but fell in love with the unpredictable character of documentary filmmaking. Hille knows how to form a bond with her subjects and how to get them to open their hearts for the camera. Energetic and inspired, she gets the job done. This is her 3rd feature-length film.
The trans women have not only touched me in their struggle, but on a completely gender-non-specific level, I find them admirable for the energy with which they stand up for themselves. They are brave, strong and beautiful. I think they are good role models and modern heroines.
